frequently asked questions

How is the food divided?

As the produce matures and becomes available, we divide it evenly between each farm share member.

How much food can I expect?

A full farm share is about two grocery bags filled with produce each week.  A half share is similar to one grocery bag filled with produce each week.

Can I purchase produce without owning a farm share?

Yes. You can call or email us to check on availability of surplus produce and current pricing. You can also visit us at Frederick Market.

Do you sell other local products besides produce?

Not at this time.

What is the deadline to sign up for the season?

June 10, 2017—Farm share memberships are full for the season. If you are interested in next year, please email us your contact information and we will be in touch with you in early spring for the 2017 season. Download PDF application/contract.

How much does a farm share cost?

Our 2017 prices are $500 for a full share, $275 for a half share.

What if something occurs that damages or ruins a crop?

As a farm share member, you agree to the risks inherently involved with farming. Crop loss can occur due to extreme weather, plagues of insects, disease, and other unforeseen natural circumstances. Grateful Hearts Farm strives to mitigate and plan for any possible crop loss to ensure members receive plentiful dividends throughout the season. No refunds for farm shares will be given.

What are the dates of the harvest season?

We typically anticipate 19-20 weeks of produce for our members. Farm shares run from mid June thru September.

How do I get my produce?

You must pick up your produce on Fridays 10 am–3 pm or Saturdays 10 am–1 pm. We ask members to select a preferred day so that we can have your produce ready.

What happens if I’m on vacation or something prevents me from picking up the produce?

We suggest sending someone in your place to pick up your share.

Am I required to work on the farm?

No.

If I would like to work on the farm, how do I arrange that?

Contact us via email if you are interested and we can discuss what you might do to help us. There are always a multitude of projects.

Can I bring my family out to visit the farm?

We love children, but our farm isn’t set up for organized activities. However, we would be delighted to show you around the farm and the chickens and goats enjoy a handful of feed from a willing child.

Please feel free to email us with any other questions you may have.
